We start your project, finish your project, AND THEN manage Your project after it’s rat free.
Many of the first documented rat catchers were during the Victorian era in the United Kingdom. During this time, London became one of the most populous cities in the world, and the risks posed by rats increased. Hygiene levels were low, and the threat of disease was high. As a result, rat catchers became in-demand amongst everyday citizens.
As modern-day methods of rat control have become widespread – such as traps and poison – the popularity of rat hunting dogs has fallen. But these incredible terriers are still an extremely effective way of dealing with a vermin infestation.
Terriers are bred to hunt vermin. Their short, stocky frames and legs allowed them to ‘go to ground’ – chase quarry underneath the earth.
Death-by-dog is more humane for the rat and better for the environment than poison. Commonly used anticoagulant poisons thin the blood and cause internal bleeding. Rats die slow deaths, and they can pass the poison on to anything that eats them, from wildlife to pets and farm animals.
Under ideal conditions a Patterdale team can eliminate 40 or more rats an hour. The rats can then be gathered and a real rat count established.
We love our dogs and take pride in helping our community. Our dogs are used in a broader Health Initiative program which allows for an entire “Start to Finish” elimination. This ensures there is no need for our customers to hire a K-9 service and an Exterminator.
